WHILST REFILLING IS A NON-SCIENTIFIC MATTER AND THERE ARE NO "HARD AND FAST RULES", THE FOLLOWING ARE CUSTOMER TESTED TECHNIQUES: |
Refilling most cartridges is an easy process providing you follow the guidelines below:
-
Always refill your cartridge (black or color) IMMEDIATELY upon the cartridge
running out of ink. It is better yet to refill when your cartridge gets low.
Cartridges that start to sit empty in your printer for a week, a month or more will
dry out, causing clogging, streaking or leaking when refilled. Cartridges that
have print heads built onto the cartridge begin drying within 30 - 45 minutes after
being removed from the printer.
If you allow the ink to run out
before refilling, what usually happens is that one or more of the micro jets blocks up because of the heat generated by the electrical charge on non-existent ink. This is the cause of "White Lines" (about the "White Line Disease" and how to prevent it see below).
- Use high quality
inks that are specifically formulated for your
cartridge model. Hewlett Packard ® uses different inks
in their Deskjet 500 Series printers than in their
600/800/1200 Series printers. Likewise, Canon® uses
different inks in their BJC-200 Series and BJC-600
Series printers. Using the wrong ink in your
cartridge can cause degraded performance or damage
to your cartridge or printer.
-
Read the refilling instructions carefully. One major cause of frustration by the refiller can be eliminated if the right amount of ink is put in. Overfilling is a major cause
of the cartridge not running properly after
refilling because of an air blockage. Air blockages
can be eliminated by placing a drinking straw over
the refilling hole and blowing down it, forcing some
ink through the nozzles. Place newspaper (or
similar) on your work surface first.
- Refill the same cartridge (the one you are currently using) over and over again.
AVOID refilling a spare and storing it outside your printer (this will cause the
problem in #1 above). Keep a new sealed cartridge as a spare until you
wear out your current cartridge.
-
When refilling the HP51626A/HP51629A cartridge - DO NOT touch or press the centre
"circle" on the top of the cartridge. If
you do, you are de-pressurising the cartridge and
making it useless for refilling.
- If you get the "RED LIGHT" warning on an EPSON® printer after refilling, you can "fool" the electronic signal indicating you have run out of ink, by placing a spot of the right coloured ink on both the cartridge and print head contact point.
-
Sometimes, after refilling an EPSON® cartridge the printer seems not to work satisfactory, perhaps one of the colour is "missing". The solution is found within the construction of the cartridge. Each time the cartridge is taken out or slotted in the cartridge well in the printer, the contact point between the felt inside the "chimney" of the cartridge and the needle inthe well is weakened. A concave effect is produced. The remedy is to get a matchstick head sized ball of cotton wool, dampen it and after rolling it into a tight ball, to push it up the "chimney". Thus, the tight contact between the felt in the cartridge and the needlepoint is maintained.
- Top off all colors
as soon as you notice the slightest bit of any color
degradation. This will eliminate excessive removal
of your cartridge (which adds to wear and tear of
the cartridge).
- How do I get ink off my hands? - A combination of bleach and soap works best.
Otherwise the ink will wear off after your second time in the shower.
- Newer model Epson Stylus Color printers create major problems after the 2nd
refill. The cartridge sponges MUST be purged of all trapped air which is
addressed in our refill kit directions.
Trouble with "White Line Disease" ?
-
Ink jet cartridges may develop a problem especially if the printer is in a centrally heated room or during hot weather. The surplus ink on the printhead dries up and thus prevents a full "lay down" of ink - hence "White Lines". To help prevent this, obtain a clean empty ice cream container, place a piece of absorbent CLOTH in the bottom, put spots of water in each corner of the cloth and store the cartridge in this slightly humid atmosphere, with the lid providing an air tight fit. Storing your cartridges in this way when the printer is not being used for a length of time will be helpful. When ready for use again, first clean the printhead with the Jetica Cleaning Fluid.
- If you continue to get "White Lines" try soaking your Hewlett Packard®
or Canon® type cartridge printhead in a shallow bowl or saucer with about 1 cm of Jetica Cleaning Fluid in the bottom, for about 30 minutes. First place a piece of cloth in the bottom (not paper or tissue), to prevent the head from being scratched by the ceramic. NEVER USE ALCOHOL OR ACETONE OR SPIRIT OR LIGHTER FUEL on your printhead! The copper contact is glued on to the cartridge shell and using such fluids will damage the contact.
There are 3 separate ways of using JETICATM Cleaning Fluid:
-
Fill the injector with 2 ml of cleaning fluid and over a sink squirt the cartridge flush on to the print head. Be careful not to touch the print head with the injector. You will immediately see the dried ink solubilize and flush away. Air dry and reinstall into printer.
- Soak the print head in cleaning fluid. Air dry and reinstall into printer and run a cleaning cycle.
-
Add 1 ml of cleaning fluid into the filling hole of the cartridge. This will rejuvenate the sponge and solubilize any dried ink.
